About the Author

Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Madelyn Lopez is an emerging Latina author pursuing her MA in English and a certificate in creative writing. Her short stories have been featured in Ink’d Publishing’s Hidden Villains: Betrayed and Noncorporeal II anthologies.

Over the years, Madelyn has been interested in dabbling with gothic and fantasy elements in her writing, focusing on dark features to portray her messages. These genres have become her favorite to write, providing many opportunities to add layers to her craft. Besides being intrigued by eerie themes, she enjoys reading other pieces of work in her free time to get inspired. These pieces range from classics to more recent gothic fantasy works.

When Madelyn is not reading or writing, she likes to bake and hang out with her friends. One day, she dreams of owning a bakery with her sister and writing books on the side. However, that is far in the future, so for now, she is happy sharing her short stories and working on her first novel.

  • Your FAQs... answered ♡!

  • What made you want to get into writing?

Writing has always been easier for me than talking. When I was younger, I was an avid reader and always kept a personal journal. I believe what pushed me to start publishing, however, was wanting to share more stories that were authentic to the emotional context of certain situations.

  • Where do you get your ideas?

As said before, I am motivated by emotions. Many of my stories stem from that. However, they also stem from my dreams, random ideas, and images that create a scene in my head.

  • What are you working on now?

As of right now, I just completed a particular story that has been in my drafts for a year. It currently stands as my longest and most romantic short story to date (I say that lightly because the plot is a bit extreme).

I also have drafts that are still in their sapling form. I am sure they will sprout any day now, as well as some pieces for my master's classes. There is a lot to look forward to.

  • When are you going to publish your own novel?

Novel writing is extremely difficult. It takes a bit of time to configure, plot, and map things out (Yes, I am saying this from experience). However, there is something that has been on my heart for a bit now... I hope I can share that one day.
